Ofada Rice

Ofada rice is a name for a particular type of rice grown in south-west Nigeria. It is used in a variety of dishes. Local ( ofada ) rice has a rough/unpolished surface and rich with the following nutrients 1. Phosphorous, 2. Fiber, which help in the reduction of the risk of bowel disorder and fighting constipation, 3. Appreciable amount of selenium which has been found to be effective in fighting colon and breast cancer. Ofada rice could be classified as either white or red rice (oryza sativa blend with oryza glaberima). The local name of the particular oryz a sativa is curled from a town in Ogun state. I could remember one of my visits to the late chief Awolowo's family house( tourist/ educational visit). We we're presented the dish and story of how ofada rice was historical to Ogun state surfaced (that's story for another day).
