Ofada Rice

Ofada rice is a name for a particular type of rice grown in south-west Nigeria. It is used in a variety of dishes. Local (ofadarice has a rough/unpolished surface and rich with the following nutrients
1. Phosphorous,
2. Fiber, which help in the reduction of the risk of bowel disorder and fighting constipation,
3. Appreciable amount of selenium which has been found to be effective in fighting colon and breast cancer.
Ofada rice could be classified as either white or red rice (oryza sativa blend with oryza glaberima).
The local name of the particular oryza sativa is curled from a town in Ogun state.
I could remember one of my visits to the late chief Awolowo's family house( tourist/ educational visit). We we're presented the dish and story of how ofada rice was historical to Ogun state surfaced (that's story for another day).
To someone not familiar with this particular specie of oryza may not know what a rich food they are missing out on,especially when served with fried green pepper that is garnished with species and intestines of goat meat or cow meat.
Ofada rice though quite expensive than the normal rice, has enough nutrients for served meal. Do well to include it in your meal
